Residents and traders operating within Eldoret City have a reason to smile knowing their businesses are safe and in incidents that may occur, they are guaranteed the safety of their property and lives.
As witnessed on Wednesday by Ruth Joshua, a business owner of Red Lantern restaurant in Elgon View estate that had a fire incident, she greatly appreciated the Uasin Gishu firefighters for their prompt response.
The team responded in a record five minutes after a fire incident was reported at the premises.
Officers managed to contain the fire and salvage her properties.

This is the second time the restaurant has reported a fire incident in weeks.
“We went to the place and contained the fire. The business owner believes some people are out to sabotage her and we didn’t find any electrical fault. We have reported the matter to Langas Police Station for investigations,” said Uasin Gishu County Chief Fire Officer David Sitati.
Eldoret Hotel gas explosion
The second fire incident was reported in a hotel within Eldoret Town after a gas explosion.
Sitati said the incident happened during the change of gas cylinders in the hotel. He also explained that the gas explosion caused a stampede as people tried to escape from the basement where the hotel was located.
However, there were no injuries and the firefighting team managed to contain the fire on time and ensure that all people came out safely.

But following the two fire incidences, the County Chief fire officer expressed the need for business owners to ensure their premises are easily accessible for easy emergency response.
He also cautioned the public on safety and the need to know the safety areas in such buildings.
In addition, the Fire and Emergency Department notified the public that in case of such emergency incidences, they can reach them on the Hotline Numbers: 0710646464, 0532061185, and 0706389888 for quick response.
