The Eldoret National Polytechnic (TENP) has been accredited as an Open, Distance and E-learning (ODeL) training centre by Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA).

The milestone achievement comes after the institution underwent thorough training and verification of standards and preparedness to roll out digital and technical courses.

During the issuance of accreditation certificate on Friday, May 22, 2026, TVETA Assistant Director of Standards Development Paul Muriithi who represented the TVETA Director General urged the institution to reach out to trainees locally and internationally.

As a qualification awarding institution, develop programs that can reach people beyond the nation borders,” he said.

Which programmes will Eldoret National Polytechnic offer under ODeL?

Website Developer Level 4 and Computer Designer Level 4 programmes have been approved by the technical regulator as the premier programmes.

Muriithi said TVETA is keen on monitoring quality of programmes being offered by various institutions both physical and online.

Let’s embrace change, build capacity of trainers and trainees because this program requires skills that are attainable and gainable,” Muriithi noted.

He also extended his gratitude to Commonwealth of Learning for having sponsored equipping of 29 national polytechnics and four special needs technical institutions with digital competencies to offer ODeL programs.

The Assistant director further urged the trainers to prepare quality training materials for the digital platform and generate revenue from them.

Go ahead and prepare good content, patent them and make it used by others to help learning grow and skills enhanced,” he added.

On his part, TENP Principal Dr. Charles Koech said the institution has positioned itself to meet market demands.

We are working on more programs to be accredited before we roll them as the market continuously call for this form of learning,” he said.

The Polytechnic’s OdeL coordinator Vincent Sabulei said that the institution is law abiding and keen on following all TVETA and other regulatory bodies policies in implementing the programs.

We had to prepare all legal requirements asked before having these programs ready for the public,” he said.

Apart from the two approved courses, the OdeL Department has trained 28 trainers and provided capacity building for many other trainers within the polytechnic.
