Elgeyo Marakwet: Proposed Wealth Creation Policy Lauded as Transformative

The Wealth Creation Policy that seeks to eradicate poverty in Elgeyo Marakwet got a major boost after four more Wards approved it.

Residents of Metkei, Kabiemit, Soy South, and Chepkorio approved the proposal in the policy that aims to legislate wealth creation.

Some ammendments where however suggested as day two of the public participation exercise came to an end.

Residents of Kaptarakwa embraced the proposals, terming it timely and transformational.

The members welcomed the idea of the policy as timely and transformational.

In Kabiemit, residents who converged at the HZ Resource Centre, endorsed the document and called for its implementation when passed as a law while in Metkei Ward, the policy was unanimously endorsed. This is even as residents of Soy South also gave their input proposals which were largely complementary at Chemoibon Chief’s office.

They called for regulation of betting and pool games, which, according to them, will ensure youth engage in meaningful economic activities rather than idling in urban centres.

At Chepkorio Vocational Training College, residents, while supporting the proposals, called for support of startups and empowerment of cooperative unions.

The public hearings will continued on Wednesday officers led by County Executives collecting views and recommendations from the residents of Kapyego, Sengwer, Embobut-Embolot, Sambirir and Endo Wards.
