Hundreds of the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) party members in Trans Nzoia County on Friday evening defected to FORD Kenya.
Receiving them, FORD Kenya’s Deputy Party Leader who is also Kwanza Constituency Member of Parliament Ferdinand Wanyonyi said the youths decision to join them means they have confidence in party the led by the Speaker of in the National Assembly Moses Wetangula.
Wanyonyi serving his third-term in the August house further expressed confidence that FORD Kenya will win majority seats in 2027 general elections in Trans Nzoia County.
“We have just started because just like you have seen, these youths resolved to ditch DAP-K voluntarily, we shall be the majority party in the next elections, watch this space,” the legislator assured members.
Revamping Ford Kenya party
Edward Munabi, FORD Kenya’s Executive Director in Trans Nzoia County said the party’s structures have been activated and that strategies to revamp the second oldest party across the country.
“Those who have been mocking us that the lion is dead should be prepared for a tough political duel. Trans Nzoia and Bungoma Counties are FORD Kenya zones and we shall reclaim our territory very soon,” Munabi said.
His sentiments were echoed by Youth league chairperson Harrison Wesa and Liz Makokha from the Women league.
“This is the beginning of a resounding victory and our opponents should be worried because the lion is now roaring never like before,” Wesa said.
Some of the youths who defected include Wafula David, Walter Wafula, Joseph Mutiso and Brian Kinyanjui. They said they defected from Eugene Wamalwa’s party because they lacked freedom which they believe is available in FORD Kenya.
“We now feel at home because we have freedom unlike where we were. We shall work to ensure we restore democracy in Kenya through this great party,” one of the defectors told journalists.

They also promised to recruit more members to the party a head of elections.
DAP-K and FORD Kenya have been flexing their muscles in bid to take control of the vote rich Trans Nzoia, Bungoma and other Western region.
The latest defections comes at a time when Trans Nzoia County Governor George Natembeya is asking FORD Kenya to fold and join the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.
