Former Ainabkoi Member of Parliament William Chepkut was on Tuesday, October 18, 2022, laid to rest at his rural home in Kapsundei village, Uasin Gishu County.

The MP died on October 8, 2022, after what the family said was collapsing in a house while in Nairobi.

His body arrived at the Eldoret Airport on Monday and proceeded to AIC Fellowship for mass.

It was later transported by road to his rural home.

In his final send-off, several political leaders were present, led by Senate Speaker Amason Kingi who delivered a message of condolence from President William Ruto.

Local leaders among the Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim and Senator Jackson Mandago were also present.

Others present included Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi, Moiben’s Prof. Phyllis Bartoo, CPA Julius Ruto (Kesses) Didmus Barasa (Kimilili) area MP Samuel Chepkonga and nominated Senator Margaret Kamar among others.

Chepkut served as MP between 2017 and 2022 after he was elected as an independent candidate.

He lost the seat in the August 2022 general election to former MP Samuel Chepkonga.

Previously, he served as the Personal Assistant to the once powerful Kanu-era Minister the late Nicholas Biwott between 1997 and 2003.

Following his death, he was eulogized by many as a down-to-earth legislator who effortlessly mingled with the common mwananchi.
