A Multi-Agency Security team on Friday, September 30, 2022, held a fruitful consultative meeting with the local leaders and elders in Kulol Sub-Location within Akoret Location in Tiaty West.
During the meeting, the team managed to recover one G3 rifle with an empty magazine.
The meeting, which is one among many being held in the county was chaired by the Rift Valley Regional Police Commander Tom Odero.
It was during the consultative meeting that the multi-agency security team urged the members of the public to embrace community policing initiatives and provide timely information that may help the security agencies to root out bandits and recover illegal firearms.
According to the National Police Service (NPS), a strong team of fighting units has been deployed in Turkana East under the command of the Operations Commander Joseph Limo to ensure safety and security prevail in the region.
The recovered G3 rifle has been handed over to the OCS Nginyang Police Station for necessary police action.
An operation ‘Komesha Uhalifu North Rift’ was launched in the region following last week’s incident that saw 11 people killed by suspected bandits.
The 11, among them 8 police officers were killed as they were pursuing bandits that had stolen livestock in a village within Turkana East.
A local chief and two civilians were also killed in the ambush.
Following the incident, President William Ruto said his administration was keen on ending cattle rustling.
“After receiving a comprehensive report on the Turkana/Pokot incident that led to 10 security/administration officers losing their lives, I have instructed security agencies to deal firmly, decisively and conclusively with those involved,” he tweeted.
