The University of Eldoret Council has named Prof. Wilson Kipkoech Ng’etich as the acting Vice-Chancellor (VC).
This follows the end of a 10-year term of outgoing VC Prof. Teresa Akenga.
In a notice to university staff and students, council chairman Dr Ismaili Buro Hassan said Prof. Ng’etich will perform the functions of the VC with effect from June 9, 2023.
The acting VC will serve in the position for a period of six months “or until a substantive Vice-Chancellor is appointed, whichever is earlier.”
“We wish to notify all University staff and students that the term of the Vice-Chancelor, Prof. Teresa Akenga ends today Thursday 8th June 2023 after serving the University of Eldoret as its Vice–Chancellor for the last ten years,” read part of the notice seen by Uasin Gishu News.
Prof. Akenga was appointed UoE VC on June 9, 2013.

The council chairman while announcing Prof. Akenga’s exit appreciated her for exemplary work which he said had seen the university grow tremendously in terms of student enrolment, infrastructural development and human resources.
“The growth has caused the recognition of the University both locally and globally as a premier institution of higher learning,” noted Dr Hassan in the notice dated June 8, 2023.
The newly appointed UoE acting VC is currently the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration and Finance).
“He is an Associate Professor of Soil Science at the University and brings a wealth of experience in management and general operations of the university having served previously on several occasions as acting Vice-Chancellor,” said the Council chairman.
