Inside Trans Nzoia County’s 2023-2027 CIDP: Highlight of Key Projects

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya on Friday unveiled the County Intergrated Development Plan (CIDP).

The CIDP outlines key areas that the county will be focusing on in the next four years.

It contains projects and interventions the county hopes to take in its development blue.

Here is a highlight of some of the main projects contained in the Trans Nzoia 2023-2027 CIDP.

Most of the locals in the county depend on agriculture as their main economic activity.

Agriculture

To address the challenges that farmers face, ranging from post-harvest loses to lack of markets, the Governor Natembeya administration has a number projects lined up.

They include construction of Agricultural Training Centre (ATC) at Mwisho farm, construction of grain stores/dryers and operationalizing existing ones, establishing milling plants to promote value addition for maize and coffee as well as procurement of Soil Testing Kits/Equipment.

Further the county plans to acquire medium prison land for the expansion of Kitale town as well as develop a Land valuation roll.

It is also targeting affordable housing units construction at Bondeni (Kitale) in partnership with National Governmet and preparation of 25 local physical and land use plans for Saboti, Endebess, Kachibora, Milimani, Cheberem, Kaboto, Kapsara, Lukhome, Kapkoi, Kimila Matunda, Gesarate, Naminti, Gitwamba, Kaplamai, Baraton, Bikeke, Nasianda, Kisawai, Kapkarwa, Maridadi, Barbaton, KoyKoy and Kapsirwa centres.

Upgrade of Kiminini township to a Municipality/Town status is in the CIDP alongside acquisition of land for the establishment of Suam Border town.

Health sector

In the Health Sector, Governor Natembeya has set a target of completing construction works in the Kitale County Referral Hospital.

He also plans to establish the Tom Mboya Mother and Baby Hospital as well as modernization and upgrading of the 6 sub county hospitals of Matunda, Kitalec ounty Hospital, Kapsara, Cherengany, Endebess and Saboti.

Construction of the Kitale Sports Complex, new county Headquarters,school milk program and Natecare are other projects in the CIDP.

Trans Nzoia County will need at least Ksh52.4 billion to fully finance projects under the CIDP.

A majority of the funds will be from internal funding from county own source revenue (OSR) and external funding of equitable share allocation from Commission of Revenue

Allocation (CRA) as well as Conditional Grants from the National Government and development partners.

The County will also rely on Public Private Partnerships (PPPs) strategy to deliver some of the projects.

To further bridge the resource deficit, the County is expected to come up with strategies to raise additional revenue to finance the CIDP programmes and projects.
