Leaders from Lugari Constituency want the National government and devolved units to invest in the promotion of local talents among youth.
This, the leaders say, will help create job opportunities as well as embrace local talents.
Led by local businessman Isaac Chihilu and Lugari National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) manager Boaz Milimu, the leaders said there are so many untapped talents among youths from grassroots that need to be supported.
“We need to invest in institutions that can help nurture talents in a better way,” said one of the leaders.
Speaking during the launch of a film produced by local youths from Lugari Sanna at Kingdom Reformation Community Church, they also urged the National Cohesion and Integration Commission to use talented youths in all counties to preach peace ahead of the 2022 general election.
“If youths can be supported and be given chance to showcase their talents, there is so much that they can do. Like now we are heading to the elections period and it is these youths that will be used by politicians if they will not be having anything productive to do as they say n idle mind is the devil’s workshop,” said Erastus Mukoe.
The leaders also lamented the increasing number of youths from the area engaging in criminal activities due to idleness.
“When this energy is not used in the right way, it will go to waste. This is why where you go to the police cells in Lugari today, the majority of those arrested are young people whose potential is being lost,” noted Lumakanda Traffic Base Commander.
