Kenyan Students at Makerere University Endorse Raila Odinga’s Presidential Bid

A section of Makerere University students from Kenya have named Azimio’s Raila Odinga as their preferred presidential candidate.

The students who addressed a media briefing at the university’s main campus in Uganda said they were ready to participate in the August 9 poll.

According to the students, the country’s current situation needs an intellectual leader that will steer it ahead.

We have decided as Kenyans in diaspora that we will vote for Raila on August 9. We will also guard his votes and ensure he wins the presidency,” said Said Binn Sharif Mwinyi, the Makerere University Kenya Students Association (MUKESA) chairman.

Kenyan current political atmosphere need an intellectual leader that can stand the test of time. Having analysed the candidates, we have identified Raila due to leadership skills displayed by him as the leader,” he added.

And with only days before the polls, the Kenyan Students at Makerere University said they are ready to participate in the general election.

The law allows Kenyans living outside the country and have registred as voters to participate in a general election.

However, they are only allowed to vote for the presidential candidate.

Data from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commision (IEBC) indicate that there are at least 10,000 eligible diaspora voters expected to participate in the Tuesdays election.

Voters outside the country will be casting their votes at respective Kenyan Embassy offices.

It is time Kenyans did the right time by voting for someone we think is going to transform Kenya to be a great nation, and that is none other than Raila,” said another student.

Another added, “we have prepred to go to the embasy to vote for Baba. There is no other candidate that fits this role.”

The students further believe a Raila Odinga government is the best placed to address their challenges.

We want someone that can handle issues for the students in diaspora,” said a female student at the Ugandan university.
