A section of members of the Kikuyu community living outside the Mt. Kenya region has called on some leaders from the vote-rich region to respect the personality and the office of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Addressing the press in Kitale, Trans Nzoia County, Kikuyu in diaspora Secretary General John Njuguna said it is premature to discuss Mt.Kenya region succession politics at the expense of development.
Njuguna, a 2022 Cherang’any Constituency Member of Parliament independent candidate called on Murang’a county leaders to concentrate on delivering their campaigns and to desist from disrespecting Gachagua.
“You the people of Muranga have Lands Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome in this government and should therefore be satisfied with that and hence desist from demeaning our Deputy President Rigathu Gachagua because he is a national leader worthy of respect,” Njuguna stated.
On his part, Stephen Githinji the Coordinator of the organisation in West Pokot County fired a warning shot at Murang’a County Senator Joe Nyutu who recently said President Ruto should drop Gachagua and replace him with Kiharu Constituency Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro.
“Yes we agree Ndindi Nyoro is a performer but his name should not be dragged into premature succession politics. Unless you want to ruin his political career, which we cannot accept as a community,” Githinji said.
Margaret Waheto, Laikipia County Coordinator and her Kakamega County counterpart David Wanyoike called for unity among the community members.
“We have been known as a united community and therefore succession politics should divide us. We can only earn respect from other communities by remaining one cohesive community,” Waheto said.
The community had a consultative meeting at the Kitale National Museum to deliberate on their political position.
