Residents of Langas Ward in Kapseret sub-county on Friday, June 13, 2025, gave their views for consideration on the proposed Uasin Gishu County Government finance bill 2025 /2026 during a public participation exercise held at the new Ward Office in Yamumbi.
The County government team led by area ward administrator Simon Kogo and Jared Mageto from the finance department captured their views, which will be incorporated in the bill before its presentation by the executive to the county assembly for approval into an Act that will guide the county collect revenue to support service delivery across the county.
To enhance food and water safety and general hygiene in the informal settlement, the residents proposed a high penalty of over Shs.20,000 to any unlicenced person found operating such businesses.
They asked the administration to increase its capacity for proper inspections and monitoring, ensuring the penalties aren’t used as an avenue for extortion but as a way to discourage unscrupulous business people from endangering lives.
Langas residents budget proposals
Other proposals included;
- The monthly payments for lockups are to be reduced to Ksh 1,000 from Ksh 1,200 in estates and increased from 1600 to 2000 within the CBD.
- They also proposed an increase in charges for greenhouses from Ksh 5,000 to Ksh 1,0000.
- They supported the proposed penalty by the county government of Ksh 30,000 for track drivers who avoid the bypass, causing obstruction and traffic jams in the CBD and estates.
Other key key areas of concern were the enactment of new laws to govern quarry business in Langas and controlling the high number of churches in the estate, which have become a menace because of noise that affects learners, especially at night.
They also supported the current law on bursaries, proposing it to remain as they urged the county governor to take full control of bursary money.
The said members of the county assembly should only play the role of oversight and not distribution of the bursary money. They demanded for a change in the membership of bursary committee who they said have been in office for over ten years.
The exercise was used to also create awareness about the Boma Yangu empowerment program, county commercial crops, and SHA, among others.
