Mount Kenya University Innovation Challenge Winners

Mount Kenya University (MKU) recently announced the winners of the Innovation Challenge.

The announcement was made in a glamorous event held at Mwai Kibaki Convention Centre to mark the last day of Research, Innovation and Agri-Expo 2023.

Each of the winners was rewarded with trophies, mentorship, and cash awards.

MKU Innovation Challenge Overall Winners

Three students – Brian Mwaghogho, Wilson Muinde, and Jimmie Paul were named the overall winners of this year’s MKU Innovation Challenge.

The win was courtesy their Smart Fingerprint Ballot Box innovation that seeks to help in solving the issue of Stray Ballots during the Voting and Election process.

They received Ksh100,000 cash prize.

The team lead is also set travel to Ireland for Tech and Innovation Expo early next year.

Collins Ojungu, a Nutrition and Dietetics student emerged the 1st Runners up in this year’s MKU Innovation Challenge with his project Dascol Farm, an enterprise that is addressing food waste by converting fish into sausages.

He received Ksh75,000 cash prize on top of further product development support at the innovation and incubation centre.

Further, Faith Kerubo, a Nursing Student, emerged the 2nd Runners for her Project – E-Green Recycle, an enterprise that seeks to pilot new approaches to e–waste collection and processing in Kenya.

Kerubo received Ksh 50,000 cash prize on top of participating in our next business incubation and acceleration program.

All the winners will be supported by the MKU research , Innovation and Incubation centre to develop their projects further to a level where the can produce industrial products.
