Transport along the busy Eldoret-Eldama Ravine road was on the better part of January 6, 2022, paralysed.
This was following a protest that a section of Naiberi centre locals and traders had staged.
The tens of traders carrying twigs and placards blocked the road at the centre. They were protesting over what they said was recent Insecurity in the area.
According to the locals and traders, in the recent weeks, Naiberi centre has witnessed increased robbery incidences.

Led by their leaders Collins Kosgey and Patricia Sawe, the locals accused local police officers of laxity.
They demanded that the officers be transferred and new ones that will guarantee their security be deployed.

According to the Naiberi traders and locals, some of the officers had overstayed at their places of work.
“Some officers have been working here for over 10 years,” Sawe told journalists during the protest.
Further, the locals argue that security teams laxity has given criminals an opportunity to terrorize them.

They say theirs has been robberies carried out by the criminals in broad daylight alongside the night attacks.
“The criminals have been targeting prominent businesses and MPesa shops at the centre,” noted Kosgey.
“It looks like they are taking advantage of police laxity to target us. We need a new security team that will effectively deliver on their mandate of protecting lives and properties,” added another local.
The enraged residents and traders also hit out at the police whom they accused of frustrating their efforts to tame the rising cases of insecurity by releasing under unclear circumstances suspects linked to robbery, illegal sale of alcohol and drugs.

Protest by locals come come just three days ago after four armed gangs raided a shop of a prominent businessman in the area and went away with Ksh2 million.
During the daring robbery incident, the criminals to shoot the businessman if he had refused to cooperate with them.
The Naiberi traders and locals and now hoping the Interior Cabinet Secretary Prof. Kithure Kindiki will come to their rescue.
