Hearing impaired people living in Nandi will now have access to state-of-the-art audiology equipment, which will aid in hearing screening, thanks to the Children’s Speech and Hearing Loss Organization (CHISHLO) for the generous donation.
The audiology equipment will contribute to the development of a comprehensive hearing centre at the Kapsabet County Referral Hospital.
Donation of the state-of-the-art audiology equipment, including the ABR machine, Tympanometer, VAR, OAE Screeners, otoscopes, and Audiometer will play a crucial role in enhancing comprehensive hearing services in the community as well as represents a significant investment in bolstering comprehensive hearing services within the county and beyond.
What is so encouraging about the donation is that, Nandi now becomes the only county after Kenyatta National Hospital to have the modern hearing equipment.
Improved hearing healthcare services
Through the generous donation of these audiology instruments, the county also gains access to improved hearing healthcare services.
Speaking while receiving the equipments, Governor Stephen Sang said that, the equipment are expected to improve patients’ health, and that hearing-impaired people living in Nandi will have access to new audiology equipment closer home.
The Governor further thanked CHISHLO for their continued support towards elimination of hearing impairment in Nandi.
According to Stephen Kittur, the national Programs’ Coordinator for Children’s Speech and Hearing Loss Organization; early detection, accurate diagnoses, and personalized treatment plans become more accessible, ultimately enhancing the quality of life for those with hearing difficulties.
“These contributions from CHISHLO and friends underscore the significance of community support in ensuring comprehensive hearing services for all,” he said.
Present at the event were the Chief Officer for Health and Sanitation Fredrick Kiptum, Director for Health David Bungei, Kurgung/Surungai Ward MCA Hon Ezra Rotich, who’s also the Chairperson Health Committee – Nandi County Assembly, Kapsabet Ward MCA Hon Benjamin Kerich among other officials.
