The Jubilee party has received at least 5 applications for aspirants interested in vying for the Member of County Assembly (MCA) seats in Uasin Gishu County.
According to the newly elected party chairman in the county Francis Muya, despite Uasin Gishu being a stronghold of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), they are optimistic of winning several MCA seats.
Muya, who is also the Langas MCA said the Jubilee party will field candidates in his ward, Kiplombe, Huruma, Moisbridge, and Kapsoya wards.
Uasin Gishu County has 30 wards, out of which the Jubilee party won 28 in 2017, with Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) winning one seat – Kiplombe ward.
There was one MCA elected as an Independent candidate in the last poll – Hillary Rono of Kipkenyo.
“We have more than 5 MCA aspirants. Langas, Huruma has more than two candidates, Kiplombe ward we have a candidate same to Moi’s Bridge, Kapsoya and many others we can’t mention because we have more than enough,” said Muya who will be seeking re-election on a Jubilee party ticket.
Wakili Kimani Wanjohi will be vying for the Huruma MCA seat on a Jubilee party ticket.
Wanjohi unsuccessfully vied during the Huruma by-election on a New Democrats ticket.
He finished second, with 1,147 votes, behind winner Lucy Chomba (then a Jubilee candidate) who garnered 2,498 votes.
Lucy, widow of the former MCA the late Peter Chomba has since joined UDA, a party she will be using to seek re-election in the August 9 poll.
The Jubilee party that is rebranding itself has not yet received any application from a candidate eyeing other available seats of Member of Parliament (MP), Senator, Woman Representative, and Governor.
In the 2017 election, the party won 4 out of the 6 MP seats, with its candidates also clinching the gubernatorial, Senate, and Woman Rep seats.
UDA is now set to replace Jubilee as the most popular party in the county, which is home to Deputy President William Ruto.
