Boost For Kimani Wanjohi in Huruma MCA Seat Race As ODM Candidate Drops Out

The Jubilee party has received a major boost in its quest to win various elective positions in Uasin Gishu County in the upcoming general election.

This follows a decision by an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) candidate for the Huruma Member of County Assembly (MCA) seat, Andrew Sure, to drop out of the race in favor of the Jubilee candidate.

Wakili Kimani Wanjohi is the Jubilee candidate for the seat.

He unsuccessfully vied for the Huruma MCA seat in 2017, as well as the 2021 by-elections where he finished second, behind the current MCA Lucy Chomba, who at the time vied for the seat on a Jubilee ticket.

Lucy Chomba has since moved to the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) – a party she intends to use in seeking re-election.

We have had discussions between ODM and Jubilee, and also between Kikuyu and Luo elders concerning the Huruma seat and we are pleased to announce that Andrew Sure has agreed to support me so that we don’t lose this seat,” Kimani Wanjohi announced on Friday, March 25, 2022.

Wanjohi noted that the new deal has been reached based on fears that should Azimio la Umoja field different candidates using member parties, they might lose out to UDA.

Huruma ward, which is largely cosmopolitan, has over 34,000 registered voters.

The race for the MCA seat has now been framed to be a UDA-Jubilee duel, between Kimani Wanjohi, and the incumbent Lucy Chomba.

With the agreement to field one candidate under Azimio la Umoja, Andrew Sure has expressed optimism that the coalition will win the seat and several others in the county which is considered a UDA stronghold.

We need to be united to deliver Huruma to Azimio. We don’t want to waste our votes through many parties,” Sure said.

He also challenged candidates seeking to vie for MCA seats in other wards within the county to consider settling on one individual.

According to recently elected Jubilee party Uasin Gishu interim chairman Francis Muya, they will also be fielding candidates in Langas, Kapsoya, and Moi’s Bridge, among other wards.
