President William Ruto on Sunday, January 14, 2023, officially opened the new Mother and Baby Unit at the Iten County Referral Hospital.
According to the County Government of Elgeyo Marakwet, the ultra 80 bed capacity facility will be a one stop-shop for mother and baby health care.
The facility is also expected to greatly boost maternal healthcare provision in the County.
“In a significant development, President H.E. Dr. William Samoei Ruto inaugurated the newly established Mother and Baby Unit at Iten County Referral Hospital (ICRH) today,” the Ministry of Health said in a statement.
“This 80-bed capacity facility is set to redefine comprehensive mother and baby healthcare in the region,” it added.
On his party, Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Wisely Rotich said, “New Mother and Baby Unit at ICRH now opens its doors after it was officially commissioned by our President H.E Dr.William Samoei Ruto.”
“The ultra 80 bed capacity facility will be a one stop-shop for mother and baby health care,” he added.
With the opening of the new unit, Iten County Referral Hospital becomes just the second public health facility in the North Rift region to have a Mother and Baby Unit – after Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital’s Riley Mother and Baby Hospital.
