Uasin Gishu Senator Prof Margaret Kamar has finally broken her silence on whether or not she will be vying for a political seat in the 2022 general election.
There have been doubts on whether Prof Kamar will be seeking re-election in 2022, especially after Governor Jackson Mandago hinted at going for the Senate seat when his term comes to an end.
It is also not yet clear which party the former Eldoret East Member of Parliament will be using as a political vehicle after sticking with the now unpopular Jubilee party – even with other leaders in the region moving to the United Democratic Alliance en-mass.
Speaking in Eldoret town when handing over equipment to support over 30 football teams from across Uasin Gishu County, Prof Kamar said she will be holding discussions with a number of stakeholders including the youth before making a decision on which seat she will vie for.
She said the announcement will be made in December.
“I have promised the youth that we are coming to discuss the position I’m vying for in December. I would like to take time until December and by December I will do an announcement on which position I’m going to vie for,” Prof Kamar told journalists.
The Senator, who is also the Senate Deputy Speaker, is serving her first term after winning the seat on a Jubilee Party ticket in 2017.
She had unsuccessfully vied for the Uasin Gishu gubernatorial seat in 2013 on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket.
