Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim has dismissed concerns being raised over the newly rolled out Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF).
Bii argues that the new fund that has replaced the defunct National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) is the best for Kenyans.
Speaking in Eldoret, the county boss faulted a section of leaders that have moved to court in a fresh bid to block SHIF’s implementation. He described them as enemies of progress.

“We have people that are known for opposing almost everything. They opposed the housing levy and ran to court. They are now opposing the new health fund,” Bii said.
“You cannot oppose better healthcare to the people. Let us allow SHIF to be rolled out,” he added.
The county boss elected on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket further dismissed the perception that anything the Kenya Kwanza administration launches can never work.
“SHIF can never be a scam. It is a fund that will ensure the rich and the poor both have access to quality healthcare,” he said.
Social Health Authority (SHA) under which the new health insurance fund will be under officially took effect on October 1, 2024.

It replaces the National Health Insurance Authority. Every Kenyan who was an NHIF registered member will be migrated to SHIF.
This is even as every Kenyan is required to register with the new fund. Registration can be done using a phone (Dial *147# on your mobile device then proceed to accept the SHA terms and conditions.), online or through Community Health Promoters or by visiting SHIF offices across the country (formerly NHIF).
