Eldoret has for decades relished global recognition as a powerhouse of world athletics, producing a remarkable number of world, Olympic, Commonwealth and other international champions.

Now, plans are underway to further cement the city’s status on the global sporting map through the launch of the Sisibo International Marathon.

Although still in the planning stages, the marathon is already being touted as one of Kenya’s highest-paying road races. Sports talent development is a premier pillar of Governor Dr Jonathan Bii’s development plan.

International sports marketing and event management firm Golazo is spearheading the technical planning and organization of the race, which is scheduled to take place in September 2026.
