Soy Member of Parliament Caleb Kositany has asked President Uhuru Kenyatta and politicians allied to the government to avoid any temptations of trying to influence the outcome of the upcoming general election.
Kositany notes that the President who is serving his last term has a right to participate in a political process, but should not be part of individuals seeking to cause disunity and disharmony amongst Kenyans.
Political leaders allied to Deputy President William Ruto have recently accused government operatives of attempting to influence the upcoming polls, following the formation of a multi-sectorial elections preparedness committee they branded illegal.
The committee comprised of Interior and ICT Cabinet Secretaries, Judiciary, and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) which has since withdrawn, following concerns from the DP allies.
“We want to tell all those on their way home. Those that have done their second terms, it is your right to participate in a political process, but don’t participate in a process that wants to cause disunity and disharmony against Kenyans,” Kositany said in a recent in Uasin Gishu County.
The legislator who has since declared an interest to vie for the Uasin Gishu gubernatorial seat further noted that the 2022 general election will be a two-horse race – between the coalition of the people of Kenya and the coalition of the deep state.
The coalition of the people, according to Kositany, is led by Deputy President William Ruto, while the Deep State coalition is under the leadership of the President.
“2022 will be a contest between people who don’t want tribalism, are tired of authoritarian leadership, the government of the past of empty promises and people who want to continue sitting on us, telling us that we are the people who do not know, and they are the ones that know,” noted the vocal legislator.
So far, the 2022 presidential race is projected to be a contest between DP Ruto – who is pushing the Bottom Up agenda – and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga that is seen as the preferred candidate for President Uhuru Kenyatta.
One Kenya Alliance (OKA) that brings together party leaders – Musalia Mudavadi (ANC), Kalonzo Musyka (Wiper), Moses Wetangula (Ford Kenya), and KANU’s Gideon Moi has not yet settled on its presidential candidate.
