Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya on May 2, 2024, led the county together with other technical training institutes stakeholders to mark the TVET centenary celebrations in the county.
He lit the celebration torch, emphasizing the importance of vocational training in fostering the growth of the small and medium enterprise economy, recognizing it as a critical component of economic development.
Speaking during the ceremony, Governor Natembeya expressed his administration’s dedication to enhancing vocational training colleges (VTCs).
“Vocational training is crucial in combating unemployment in the country by equipping learners with skills for self-employment. The achievements of this sector are worthy of celebration,” the Governor emphasized.
The centenary torch symbolizes the tremendous success that the nation has achieved through Technical and Vocational Education and Training.
Trans Nzoia Education and Vocational Training County Executive Capt Stanley Kirui encouraged students to enrol in the 32 vocational training centres across the county, among them 4 Technical Training Institutes and the Kitale National Polytechnic to acquire skilled knowledge.
The Governor was joined by a delegation from the TVET sector in the region, headed by Martha Wekesa, the Trans Nzoia County Director of TVET, along with John Akola, the principal of Kitale National Polytechnic, the principal of Endebess Technical Training Institute Daniel Kakusha and the principal of Cherang’any Training Vocational Institute, Nobert Wafula, Director Vocational training Eliud Khisa Lusweti as well as deputy director Eric Wafula among other county officials.
