Trans Nzoia County’s Department of Sports carried out a grassroots recruitment drive over the weekend to discover new talents ahead of the 8th edition of the Kenya Youth Inter-County Sports Association (KYISA) games.
The games will take place from April 23rd to 30th in Tharaka Nithi County.
In a bid to bolster their chances at the games, Trans Nzoia County will present two teams – a men’s football team as well as a men’s volleyball team.
The recruitment process took place at Kiminini Primary School for volleyball players and Kitale School for football players.
Only individuals aged between 18-23 years who have not participated in any league were eligible to participate.
KYISA, which is anchored at the Council of Governors, is responsible for recruiting, developing and placing sports talent in all 47 counties in Kenya.
The organization is also tasked with coordinating sports within the counties at a technical level, with a focus on promoting and improving sports standards in the country.
The grassroots recruitment drive is part of KYISA’s effort to identify new talents as well as groom them into top athletes who can represent their counties in national and international competitions.
With the KYISA games drawing closer, many counties are working hard to ensure they have the best teams possible to compete in the tournament.
