The Uasin Gishu County Assembly will next start vetting County Executive members who Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim last week nominated to head various departments.
Assembly Speaker Phillip Muigei says already a committee to vet the County Executive Committee Members (CECMs) has been established and approved.
The Committee on Appointment chaired by the Speaker and his deputy Sarah Malel as the vice chairperson was approved last week.
“It is a constitutional mandate of the County Assembly to vet the nominees to determine their suitability in order to enable the executive to perform its duties optimally,” Muigei said.

The vetting process will start on Monday, October 17, 2022, at the Uasin Gishu County Assembly buildings.
All 10 CECM nominees will be subjected to the vetting process.
Once the committee whose members also include the leader of the majority at the County Assembly Julius Sang and the leader of the minority Francis Muya finalize the vetting process, they will submit a report that will be subject to approval by all the Members of the County Assembly.
Other members of the Committee on Appointment include Racecourse MCA Amos Kiptanui, Jonathan Ng’etich (Kaptagat) and Sergoit’s David Keitany.
Isaack Samoei, Gilbert Lagat, Mercy Jepkurui, and Nathan Malalach are others on the committee of 11 members.
Relationship with journalists
The Uasin Gishu County Assembly Speaker spoke during a media breakfast with journalists based in Eldoret town.

During the meeting, Mugei affirmed his commitment to enhancing the working relationship between the Assembly and the media.
He said he is already working on ensuring easy access to information for journalists who play a key role in educating and informing members of the public on issues that MCAs will be discussing.
“I am an outgoing person and I will work with all journalists. I know you guys can be a tool that will be of benefit to the county assembly in the dissemination of information,” said Muigei who was a few weeks ago elected as the third Uasin Gishu County Assembly Speaker.
He was responding to concerns from journalists over the assessability of the past county assemblies.
