Phillip King’etich Muigei is the new Uasin Gishu County Assembly Speaker.
Muigei was declared duly elected Speaker after the second round of voting by Members of County Assembly (MCAs) in a hotly contested race.
44 MCAs were voting to elect a new speaker that required at least 30 votes to win in the first round.

But in the first round, Muigei had 16 votes against his main competitor Nancy Chemutai Sang who had 13 votes.
In the second round, the new speaker garnered 25 votes to beat Chemutai who had 19 votes.
The seat had attracted 8 candidates.
But in the first round, it was a three-horse race between Muigei, Nancy and Tony Kiprotich.
Muigei had 16 votes, Nancy 13 while Kiprotich who was a Turbo MP candidate in the August 9 poll got 10 votes to finish third.
Other candidates in the race received under 5 votes.
Muigei, who formerly worked as the accountant at the Uasin Gishu County Assembly is now the third speaker, taking over from David Kiplagat.
