A team of the Uasin Gishu firefighting brigade on Friday, December 16, 2022, retrieved a body of a male adult from a trench with overflowing waters in the Cherunya area in Langas ward, Kapseret Sub County.
According to the Cherunya village elder Michael Okoth and resident Alice Atieno, the deceased identified as George Okoth could have fallen into the deep trench while trying to cross when drunk.
The residents praised the team from the County Government department of Roads, Transport and Public Works saying they took less than ten minutes to respond to their distress call and took a few minutes to retrieve the body from the trench.

However, the locals appealed to the government to ensure the contractor completes the project quickly to avert such incidents in the area.
The body was later transported to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) mortuary.
Uasin Gishu Chief Fire Officer Sitati Wanyama said that his team has responded to various emergencies in the last two months.
Quick response to emergencies
He cited a recent incident where a body of a middle-aged man was retrieved at the Kapkoros area, an accident at Koromosio along the Eldoret Southern Bypass that left six people dead as well as the Chirchir area in Ainabkoi where a gas tanker overturned.

A fire incident at Lemok in Kapseret Sub County where lives were saved and the retrieval of a body near Huruma estate dumpsite where a man was murdered and dumped in a thicket are other incidences the Uasin Gishu Fighters have responded to.
Meanwhile, the preparedness and quick response to emergencies by the team of Uasin Gishu rescue firefighters who boost skilled manpower complete with equipment has been termed as a major milestone by the devolved unit.
The unit is among the measures put in place by Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim-led administration for Eldoret town to meet the requirements to be elevated to a city.
