Uasin Gishu Politicians Threaten Actions against County Commissioner Stephen Kihara

A section of political leaders in Uasin Gishu County has threatened to take several actions against County Commissioner Stephen Kihara.

The leaders accuse the County Commissioner of holding meetings aimed at causing divisions amongst communities in Uasin Gishu.

Led by Soy MP Caleb Kositany and Woman Representative Gladys Boss Shollei, the politicians say they might be forced to demand the transfer of the County Commissioner among others.

Speaking at Kapsang, Soy Sub County during the burial of Wilson Maru Chelilim, father to Uasin Gishu gubernatorial aspirant Jonathan Bii, Shollei said governor Jackson Mandago should call for a public forum with the County Commissioner and address the issues.

“We must hold him to account. As governor, go as a delegation, have a public forum, and call him us. Question why he is spreading propaganda that if Deputy President Willam Ruto becomes President, a certain community in this county will suffer,” noted the Woman Rep.

We can demonstrate until he is transferred,” she added.

On his part, Soy MP said as leaders, they can write a letter to among others the International Criminal Court (ICC) over the activities of the Uasin Gishu County Commissioner.

Kositany also told off Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i who recently asked politicians not to drag civil servants into their political campaigns.

Kositany while officially joining the race a few months ago spelled out some of the areas that his government will be focusing on if elected the second governor of Uasin Gishu.

“What we are saying we know. The communities you are trying to divide are the ones coming to tell us about those meetings,” noted the legislator.

He added: “We want to tell Mating’i we will not fear anything and anybody – mambo ya vitisho peleka mahali pengine.”

This is not the first time the Uasin Gishu County Commissioner is being accused of inciting communities.

During a recent Eldoret mega rally, Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri and Mathira’s Rigathi Gachagua made similar allegations.

Kihara has since dismissed the claims saying he was not aware of the meetings the leaders were talking about.

Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago, however, did not directly hit out at the County Commissioner when speaking at the burial but instead called on government officials to keep off politics and stick to their mandate.

He also assured Uasin Gishu locals that, as long as he remains the county boss until he hands over power to the next governor, the county will remain peaceful, before and after the poll.
