Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim on Monday, officially assented to the Uasin Gishu County Rural Water and Sanitation Bill, 2023, transforming it into an Act.
This comes after the Bill received unanimous approval from the County Assembly of Uasin Gishu.
A press release from the county government indicates that the newly assented Act paves the way for the establishment of the Uasin Gishu Rural Water and Sanitation Company, which will serve as a crucial agency in enhancing the efficiency, operation, as well as maintenance of water supply projects across the county.
“The County Government of Uasin Gishu reaffirms its dedication to providing sustainable and reliable water resources for all residents, in line with the objectives set forth in the Nguzo Kumi blueprint,” read part of the press release.

Speaking during the brief exercise at the county headquarters in Eldoret town, the county boss said, “Access to clean water and proper sanitation is a fundamental human right, and it is our duty as public servants to ensure that every resident of Uasin Gishu County benefits from these essential services.”
“By establishing the Uasin Gishu Rural Water and Sanitation Company and effectively managing our financial resources through the Budget Appropriation Act, we are taking tangible steps towards fulfilling this promise,” he added.
Uasin Gishu County Budget Appropriation Bill
Already Ksh40 million has been allocated to the county budget for the 2023/2024 Financial Year to facilitate the operationalization of the Uasin Gishu Rural Water and Sanitation Company.
In another demonstration of his commitment to effective governance, Governor Bii also assented to the Uasin Gishu County Budget Appropriation Bill.
The legislation authorizes the county government to allocate and responsibly utilize funds for the forthcoming financial year.
County’s Finance and Economic Planning Executive last week presented a Ksh9.8 billion budget statement at the County Assembly which was later adopted.
The combined implementation of the two groundbreaking Acts will commence immediately after their official publication later this week.
“Through these groundbreaking initiatives, the county aims to uplift communities, drive economic development, and foster an environment where prosperity, as well as sustainable growth, are accessible to all,” read part of the press release.
