Uasin Gishu Deputy Governor Eng. John Barorot has announced plans by the county to reintroduce ward project identification committees.
The Committees were set up during the past administration but their terms have since lapsed.
Eng. Barorot says the committees with representation from every corner of the ward will play a key role in ensuring projects funded by the county reflect the needs of the people.
“We don’t want one person to be making decisions,” said the DG.
He spoke at the Tarakwa ward office during the Public participation budget estimates Forum for the Financial year 2023-2024 on Tuesday.
The DG however said the committees which will be reconstituted in the coming financial year must have gender representation as well as the youth.
He also asked members of the public to always attend public forums convened by the county to ensure their issues are put into consideration during the budget-making process.
Auditing projects
The Economic Advisor in office of the Governor Philip Matelong shared similar sentiments noting that Governor Bii’s ‘Nguzo Kumi’ development blueprint is based on proposals received from members of the public during grassroots engagements before the 2022 general election.
Further, Chief Officer for Finance Eliud Chemaget noted that going forward, senior county officials will be engaging the locals regularly as a way of auditing projects initiated.
“When we will have any issues, they will be addressed at ward levels,” said Chemaget.
He assured that Governor Jonathan Bii’s administration was keen on the delivery of the development on the pillars of Nguzo Kumi as promised during campaigns with accountability.
County Executive Committee Member for Devolution and Administration Elijah Kosgei, Nicholas Chepkwony (Chief of Staff), and Eunice Suter Chief Officer for Gender were present.
