Vetting For Uasin Gishu CECM Nominees Starts

The Uasin Gishu County Assembly on October 17, 2022, started vetting individuals nominated to be in charge of various departments.

Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim about a fortnight ago nominated 10 County Executive Committee Members (CECMs) and forwarded their names to the county assembly for vetting and consideration.

Last week, the MCAs approved a committee on appointment mandated to vet the CECMs.

The 11-member committee is chaired by County Assembly Speaker Phillip Muigei with Deputy Speaker Sarah Malel as the vice chair.

The leader of the majority Julius Sang and the leader of the minority Francis Muya are also members of the committee.

First to appear before the committee will be Agriculture department CECM nominee Edward Sawe followed by Michah Rogony nominated to be in charge of Finance.

Once the vetting is completed, the committee expected to table its report as early as next Tuesday for debate by all the MCAs.

Should the nominees be approved, they will be sworn in and start serving in their respective dockets.

But in the event any of the nominees are rejected, the governor will be required to nominate other individuals who will go through the same vetting process.

CECMs are key members of the county executive. They seat in a cabinet chaired by the governor.
