General Service Unit, Eldoret Queens, Kenya Commercial Bank, Wendani and Kipkenyo are winners of the 2nd Edition of Eldoret City Governor’s Cup Volleyball Tournament.
At the tourney held at Eldoret Polytechnic Grounds, GSU showed Kenya Prisons Service who the boss is, beating them 3-0 in a highly cheered senior men’s final match.
African club champs KCB beat Kenya Pipeline to win the ladies’ senior category while Eldoret Queens lifted the self-sponsored ladies’ category trophy, after seeing off Kipkenyo 3 -1 at the finals.

Racecourse and Simat were third and fourth in the self-sponsored category.
The men’s self-sponsored category was won by Wendani and Kipkenyo who tied at position one on points consideration while Kiplombe and Hazina were third and fourth.
Platform for youths
The County Government sponsored 60 teams; a men’s and a women’s team from each of the 30 wards, to compete at the tourney.
“Our interest is to give these youths a platform where they can showcase their sports abilities so that in the process, they can earn from their talents.”
“At this tournament, my government sponsored up to 60 teams to compete. There were individuals from big clubs scouting for talent and I think some of our youth have been identified by top clubs, this is empowerment,” said Governor Bii, on Sunday.

The Governor further said his government is undertaking several programs aimed at empowering the youth and commercializing their sports talents.
Speaker of the County Assembly, Philip Muigei, Members of County Assembly, President Dr William Ruto’s daughter, Charlene, County Executives led by Sports’ Eng Lucy Ng’endo, COs led by Sports’ Jelagat Tirop as well as Kenya Volleyball Federation’s top leadership, among other leaders, attended and watched the finals.
