Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Dr Eddyson Nyale has threatened to kick out all boda boda riders from operating within the Eldoret town centre.

Dr Nyale says there have been rising concerns amongst locals over the riders’ involvement in criminal activities.

Speaking at Kapsoya Secondary School during the Jamhuri Day celebrations, the county security boss said should the riders continue to be involved in criminal activities, they will have no option but to be kicked out of the town.

We are telling you, if you have that habit of carrying stolen items and criminals, we will kick you out of town,” said the County Commissioner.

Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim with County Commissioner Dr Eddyson Nyale during Jamhuri Day celebrations at Kapsoya Secondary School in Ainabkoi Sub County.

He narrated how he came across a boda boda rider helping a criminal that had stolen electronics in Eldoret town recently.

Just a few days ago, I witnessed a boda boda rider helping a criminal that had stolen a huge TV set. He was waiting for the criminal near Komora centre around 5.00 am. By the time we attempted to intercept them they had gone. The following day he had a report that a TV had been stolen alongside a Subaru vehicle,” Dr Nyale said.

The county security boss said they will not entertain such elements within the town.

He further revealed that he will on December 14, 2022, be hosting a meeting of all Sub County Commissioners and other county officers to address the security challenges that the riders are posing to locals and investors.

Vehicle thefts in Eldoret

Concerning cases of vehicle thefts that have been on the rise in recent days within the county, Dr Nyale noted that the police have made positive steps in addressing them.

He revealed that within the last month, they have managed to recover at least 10 vehicles that had been stolen.

One of the vehicles was recovered in Shanzu Mombasa. We are still working on dealing with it once and for all,” he added.

But even as the police continue hunting the car theft syndicate, members of the public have been asked to be vigilant, especially during this season when there are many ceremonies – a target for the criminals.
