Buzeki Challenges Counties to Provide Subsidized Farm Inputs to Farmers

Billionaire businessman Zedekiah Kiprop alias Buzeki has asked elected leaders not to forget about farmers’ plight even as they seek re-election in the upcoming poll.

Buzeki, in a post on his Facebook page, said, rather than making pledges on what they intend to do, those currently occupying office should use their positions to help farmers.

We appreciate the wonderful pledges you are making for future positions but kindly address the current challenges,” noted the Uasin Gishu gubernatorial aspirant.

Farmers in the North Rift region have been lamenting over the high cost of production and poor cereals prices.

In a recent Eldoret Mega rally, Deputy President William Ruto pledged to address the challenges by allocating sufficient funds to the Agriculture sector.

The DP also promised to lower fertilizer prices to Ksh2,500 per bag, if he forms government after the August 9, 2022 poll.

But even as farmers hope the country’s second in command keeps his pledge, if he wins the presidency, Buzeki wants action taken now.

“Our farmers in UG are struggling to stay afloat. They are now preparing their farms in the midst of staring huge cost of farm inputs. The National and County Governments are silent,” noted the billionaire businessman.

Among the interventions, Buzeki wants to be prioritized include the provision of subsidies to farmers.

He also wants a zero rating of taxes on farm inputs.

“The County should provide subsidies by sourcing the inputs on behalf of the farmers in large scale and paying part of the cost. The National Government should zero rate taxes on farm inputs to help farmers make farming profitable,” Buzeki suggested.

Agriculture is among the key areas that the billionaire businessman has been passionate about. He hopes the people of Uasin Gishu will give him the opportunity to be their governor so that he actualizes his dreams.

“God willing, with your support Uasin Gishu, Transformational times begins in August this year. Our programs and projects will solely address your challenges,” Buzeki notes.
