Jamal Diriwo Omari, the North Rift Muslim Youth Daawa Group Secretary-General has written to the security agencies in the country seeking protection over threats to his life and family.
Omari, in a letter dated December 29, 2021, says life is in danger and that unknown people have been following him.
The open letter is copied to among others the Uasin Gishu County Commissioner, DCI, Judicial Service Commission (JSC), and the National Traditional Health Practioners’ Association (NATHEPA).

“I appeal to the government of Kenya, Judicial Service Commission and the Muslims at large for the safety of my life and that of my family including deformation of my character as a traditional health practitioner in the country,” Jamal Diriwo Omari says in part of the letter.
Omari is an herbalist and proprietor of the Eldoret-based Tana-River Arabic Herbal Clinic.

All these threats, he claims, are a result of a case he filed before the Eldoret High Court, against trustees of the Eldoret Muslim Association on May 31, 2021.
“Since I petitioned before the court, my life has been in danger and that of my family including accessing to my work premises to earn a daily living for my family,” the North Rift Muslim Youth Daawa Group Secretary-General says, in the letter.

Aside from seeking intervention and protection from the security agencies, Jamal Diriwo Omari is also calling upon the National Traditional Health Practioners’ Association (NATHEPA) to come to his rescue.
He says those after his life have branded him a witch, due to the nature of his work – traditional herbalist.

“Whatever move I take to communicate with my people and organizing for my work, I’m blocked by unknown people, calling the people I speak with by deforming my character in all manners,” noted the Eldoret Muslim leader.
He further lamented that this is not the first time he has expressed fears about his life as he made a similar complaint to the police on January 28, 2021, but no action was taken.

Jamal Diriwo Omari also says the formal complaint he presented before the Independent Police Oversight Authority (IPOA) has also not been responded to.
And with the persistent threats to his life, he says he is ready to die fighting for the property of Muslims in Eldoret.
The case he has filed accuses the Eldoret Muslim Association trustees of mismanagement of assets for the association and wants them blocked from holding any leadership position in Muslim groups.

“Iwapo nitakufa kwa sababu ya kuteteya mali ya umma wa Kiislamu Eldoret Muslim Association so be it…I suspect the defendants on the petition E017 of 2021 Eldoret High Court are behind sending mamluki after my life,” said Jamal Diriwo Omari in the letter.
