Elgeyo Marakwet: NYS Delivers First Batch of Construction Machinery

Roads in difficult terrain within Elgeyo Marakwet County are set to be improved.

This is after the National Youth Service (NYS) on January 23, 2023, delivered pieces of machinery that will be used on the works.

According to Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Wisely Rotich, NYS delivered the machinery following a request he made to the agency’s director general last year.

Rotich hinted that more machinery to improve road network in the county will he delivered in due course.

Today, I received the first batch of machinery from the National Youth Service (NYS). This follows my request with NYS Director General Madam Matilda Sakwa in September last year,” he added.

Elgeyo Marakwet is among counties with difficult terrain and the NYS machinery will help improve the road network ahead of the long rains anticipated from late March 2023.

The machinery will be used to open up roads in difficult terrain like the valley and hanging valley,” Governor Rotich said.

He added that: “We are expecting more machinery in the coming days. This will ensure that our roads are improved before the onset of March-April rains.”

But even as the county boss unveiled the NYS road construction machinery, he noted that locals will also benefit in terms of jobs among others bush cleaning where works are to be done.

The team is ready to embark on construction works as soon as possible.They will also enlist services of locals in bush clearing and other services,” the Governor said.
