Expectant mothers in Keringet, Nakuru County will soon access world-class maternity services closer to them.
Multiple world champion Faith Kipyegon on Sunday, January 25, 2026, presided over groundbreaking ceremony for a maternity wing in the area.
Keringet is the area where Kipyegon grew up and still lives.
According to Kipyegon, the project, supported by Nike, seeks to address a perennial challenge that expected mothers in the area have faced since she was young.

The athlete said it has been her dream to be part of those finding a solution to this challenge.
“While growing up in Keringet and actually still today, I see something that breaks my heart far too often. I see women go into labour full of hope, carrying life, carrying dreams and too many times, they come back empty-handed. Not because they did anything wrong. But because the care they needed was too far away, too limited, or simply not good enough,” the athlete said.
“For a long time, I carried a dream in my heart. A dream to help change this reality. A dream to create a place where women feel safe when they give life,” she added.
The maternity wing will provide better birth care close to home, a place where mothers will be supported, respected, and protected.

“I’m looking forward to develope this project further with the support of Nike, the Order of Malta, the Franciscan Sisters of The Immaculate Conception and the local community,” Kipyegon said.
