Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago has held talks with members of Athletics Kenya Masters from the county on how to incorporate their race in the Eldoret City Marathon and also boost their activities and promote the sport to attract more participants.

Among the areas of discussion, was a possibility of the masters’ athletics to be incorporated in the Eldoret City Marathon and other support that will further help ease their activities.

During the discussions, Governor Mandago pledged to ensure the Chaigaiya High Altitude Training Camp in Kesses Sub County is completed on time for sportsmen and women to start using it.

He said apart from bringing people together and helping athletes earn a living, sporting activities are very key in ensuring people leave a healthy life through continued exercise.

“The health benefits that come from running supersedes everything, that is why we started footpaths along all major roads in town to enable people to exercise without worrying of being hit by vehicles on the road,” Mandago said.

Some of the Athletics present in the meeting recently represented the County Government of Uasin Gishu in the 13th edition of African Masters Championships Athletics that was held between 24th and 27th November at Nyayo Stadium, Nairobi.

They won 27 gold medals and 8 Silver Medals.
