Members of County Assembly (MCAs) across the country have for the last two days held their first sittings where they took oath of office.
The first business of the MCAs after being sworn in was to elect a County Assembly Speaker.
Almost all counties have now sworn in the MCAs, and also elected their new Speaker.
In the North Rift, swearing in ceremonies and election of speaker was held on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Trans Nzoia and Turkana had their sessions on Tuesday while Uasin Gishu, Baringo, Bungoma, Nandi and Elgeyo Marakwet had theirs on Wednesday, September 21, 2022.
Here is a list of all the individuals elected Speakers for the North Rift Counties.
- Uasin Gishu – Phillip Kipng’etich Muigei
- Nandi – Philemon Cheruiyot Melly
- Trans Nzoia – Andrew Wanyonyi
- West Pokot – Fredrick Kaptui
- Elgeyo Marakwet – Philemon Sabulei
- Turkana – Christopher Nakuleu
- Baringo – Vincent Kemboi
The Speaker is the leader of the County Assembly.
Further, their roles include presiding over the debates of the County Assembly and maintaining the County Assembly attendance register.
Also, they enforce the observance of the Constitution, the Standing Orders, relevant statute and Assembly traditions, procedures and practices.
