Natembeya Graces Groundbreaking for Ksh900m Kitale Ultra-Modern Sports Complex

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya on February 27, 2023, graced the groundbreaking ceremony for an ultra-modern sports complex in Kitale town.

Once complete, the complex is expected to be utilized by thousands of sportsmen and women.

The international standard facility that will cost a total of Ksh900 million on completion has been scheduled for construction in two phases.

The first phase which will take Ksh657 will comprise a VIP dais, a running track, changing rooms, spectators’ seats, a canopy and an abolition block. This phase will take a maximum of 18 months to complete.

Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony, Natembeya pointed out that the 50,000-capacity stadium will attract sportsmen and women including those from neighbouring Uganda and South Sudan.

He further said it will help promote talent nurturing as well as boost revenue generation for the county.

This project will address infrastructure and training equipment deficiencies and provide modern training equipment to talented youths from Trans Nzoia County,” said the county boss in a tweet.

The second phase will have pitches for indoor games including table tennis, swimming and chess established and will begin soon after the completion of the first phase.

Delays in funds’ release

However, the county boss cited delays in the disbursement of funds from the national revenue and land grabbing as some of the challenges that could derail the project.

He however remained optimistic about overcoming the hurdles.

The event was also attended by the county secretary Truphosa Amere, County Executive Committee Members, Kwanza Member of Parliament Ferdinand Wanyonyi and a host of Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) among other dignitaries.

During the occasion, St. Anthony Boys High school soccer team popularly known as Solidarity Boys beat Goseta Boys 2:0 in a sensational match played at the County Stadium.

The governor awarded the winners Ksh50,000 and a set of football jerseys with the runners-up getting Ksh25,000 plus a set of football jerseys.
