Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Wisely Rotich has cancelled planned interviews of directors and Iten County Referral Hospital Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
The positions had been internally advertised by the County Public Service Board.
But Governor Rotich said the list of candidates shortlisted by the board had not met his desired criteria, thereby directing the board to re-advertise the positions afresh externally to attract more suitable candidates.
In a notice to the board chair, the governor said a fresh advertisement would allow more candidates to express interest and eventually recruit the most suitable and qualified candidates for the positions that can deliver.
“The board is hereby directed to readvertise the positions afresh externally so as to give more candidates opportunity to express interest and eventually recruit the most suitable and qualified candidates for the positions that can deliver,” Rotich said.
Four positions for directors and the CEO post of Iten County Referral Hospital were advertised which according to the governor, the internal advisements had earlier been considered as a way of managing the county’s wage bill.
Desired results
They include positions of director of resource mobilization and partnerships development, director of peace, conflict resolution and disaster management, youth empowerment and enterprise development (Pepea Program) and director, of service delivery unit.
“The positions were established to expedite the fulfilment of my manifesto. From the shortlist, it clearly shows that either few candidates or few were shortlisted eventually reducing the pool of qualified professionals to choose from which may not yield my desired the desired results that meet the expectations of our community,” the county boss said in a letter of cancellation dated September 21, 2022.
The advertisement saw the board shortlist a few number of candidates while some were shortlisted in almost all positions causing a public outcry.
Interviews had been set for September 27, 2022.
