A police officer in Eldoret town is nursing gunshot injuries he sustained after a gun that was in a boot of the vehicle they were patrolling with accidentally discharged one round of ammunition.
According to a police report seen by Uasin Gishu News, the incident happened while the police was on patrol together with another colleague along the Eldoret-Uganda road, in Turbo Sub County, on Friday afternoon.
The report filed at the Eldoret Police Station notes that the AK47 accidentally discharged the ammunition after the car, a Subaru, they were in hit a bump at around 2.30 PM.

“On reaching Miti Moja area, the vehicle hit a road bump and an AK 47 rifle which was in the boot accidentally discharged one round of 7.62mm ammunition.”

The bullet hit the rear seat passing through and brushing through the left rib below the armpit of the police officer, the report filed at 3.20 PM noted.
“The officer sustained a slight injury on the left ribs as the bullet passed through the tissue but did not enter the chest cavity. He was rushed to Eldoret Memorial hospital and admitted in stable condition.”
