A group of elders drawn from the Luhya community in Trans Nzoia have called on Governor George Natembeya and his deputy Bineah Kapkory to come to a local solution so as to enable the county to continue on its development track.
Led by Fednard Wanyisia, the elders have said that the squabbles were making the county ungovernable.
Natembeya has since been forced to face numerous panels over the rift between them. This week, he appeared before the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) as well as the Senate.
“We as elders have a solution to the problems arising from the two. Let them bring the cases to Trans Nzoia and give us a chance to find a solution rather than squaring it out in Nairobi where we cannot reach to give our counsel,” Wanyisia said.
The elders have also criticized the move by the DG to move to the senate to address the issues saying that she made the decision without exploring other available avenues.
Waste of time
“We have a county assembly here that could have handled the issue amicably rather than her taking the governor to the senate. Now see all the governor has to do is board planes to answer to charges in the senate next EACC and we might hear later that he is to face the DCI which really is a waste of time. This will only derail the development we were starting to experience,” noted Peter Masinde, an elder from Kiminini Sub-County
The Luhya elders have also expressed concerns over the direction that the case is taking. They noted that outside forces may be behind the move by the DG to destabilize Natembeya’s administration.
“We see the hand of another politician in the case as we know Natembeya is a strict man thus they are using his DG to destabilize him. We will meet with them come 2027,” noted Joseph Muanga, representing the disabled community.
For now, the elders have vowed to bring together the two warring parties in a bid to find a lasting solution to the misunderstandings and help the county steer clear of such derailments.
“We do not want to go the Meru way thus advocating for peaceful co-existence between the two leaders so as to enable our county to spur high on development.”
