Billionaire businessman David Lagat (DL) has for the first time openly spoken about his political ambitions.
For the past few months, DL has been rumoured to be eyeing the Nandi gubernatorial seat for the 2027 General Election.
On Saturday, DL admitted that he was indeed mulling vying for the governorship.
However, he revealed that he was still divided k whether to vie in Uasin Gishu or Nandi.
Speaking in Ndaptabwa, Mosop Sub-County during the burial of the late Mwalimu Rebecca Birgen, DL said it’s the people who will ultimately decide the county he will vie for.

“I don’t talk too much. I am a businessman and I work for the people. They are the ones who will decide if it is Uasin Gishu or Nandi,” DL said in an event also attended by Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim.
“If it’s in Uasin Gishu, we will agree with Chelilim, I leave it for him or he leaves it for me. Same to Nandi. So as if now I’ve not said anything,” he added.
The bussieissman who is said to be a close ally of President William Ruto said when the right time comes, he will publicly announce his next move.
The gubernatorial race in the two counties are already heating up.
In Uasin Gishu, incumbent Jonathan Bii Chelilim will have to give his all to secure the UDA ticket with political heavyweights seeking to unseat him.
Who are seeking to unseat Jonathan Bii in 2027?
Bii is likely to battle Education Principal Secretary Prof Julius Bitok and bussieissman Zedekiah Kiprop Bundotich (Buzeki).
Bitok lost to Chelilim on the UDA nominations while Buzeki vied on an independent candidate.
In Nandi, the face is wide open with Stephen Sang serving his last term.
Tinderet MP Julius Melly and Nandi County Woman MP Cynthia Muge have emerged as frontrunners alongside Allan Kosgey and Senator Samson Cherargey.
DL’s entry in either Uasin Gishu or Nandi would likely force other individuals eyeing the top seat back to the drawing board.
