The County Government of Uasin Gishu has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) that will see 330 students sponsored to join the institution annually.
Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim signed the MoU on Tuesday at the County headquarters in Eldoret town.
KMTC Chief Executive Officer Dr Kelly Oluoch signed the MoU on behalf of the medical college.
Speaking after the event, Governor Chelilim said the agreement will see his administration sponsor students to study several tailor-made medical related courses at the college.

The college also agreed to help the students secure job opportunities not only locally but also abroad.
“We have also discussed issues on courses our youth need to pursue. There are very serious emerging courses and we ask the college to fast-track so that we can get as many students as possible doing them because of the needs that we have in the rural areas,” said the county boss.
Improve healthcare
On his part, the KMTC Chief Executive said the partnership will go a long way to ensuring improved health care in Uasin Gishu.
Dr Oluoch said the partnership is part of the institution’s efforts to support the county have sufficient skills to advance health.

“We also discussed issues of placement of students across health facilities. We want to ensure the students serve alongside qualified health workers,” said the KMTC boss.
“Going forward, KMTC is looking beyond offering medical training. It will assist students get jobs not only in Kenya but also outside,” he added.
KMTC is one of the respected medical training colleges in the country.
It was established in 1927 and gets its support from the National Government.
The college has campuses spread across the country.

In Uasin Gishu, there is one KMTC campus, with another expected to start operations soon in Ziwa, next to the Ziwa Sub County Hospital which is still under constructions.
Construction of the Ziwa KMTC campus is being funded by the National Government – Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF).
