Former Kenyan ambassador to Pakistan Prof. Julius Bitok has received a major boost in his bid to be the next Uasin Gishu County Governor.
This is after his gubernatorial ambitions were endorsed by a section of bodaboda operators in the county.
Prof. Bitok met with hundreds of the operators who made the declaration on Saturday.
Taking to his official Facebook page after the event, the former Moi University lecturer affirmed his commitment to supporting Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), if elected the county boss.
“With utmost gratitude, I sincerely wish to appreciate my friends from the Boda Boda enterprise for endorsing my bid to be the 2nd Governor of Uasin Gishu,” he posted on Facebook alongside photos from the event.
“My priority is to create an enhanced and friendly environment for MSMEs to thrive,” added the former envoy.
Prof Julius Bitok has identified six key agendas that he hopes to implement for the benefit of the Uasin Gishu people if given the mandate.
The six agendas coined in his campaign slogan – ‘Agenda Ni Sita’ include improving agriculture and job creation.
Explaining the choice of the six agendas in one of his recent Facebook post, Prof Bitok said “‘Agenda Ni Sita’ is all about transformation and implementation of development across Uasin Gishu county. My choice for the six pillars is well informed and researched out.”
“These pillars are implementable and touching directly on the common man at the ground level,” he added.
Prof Bitok is vying for the gubernatorial seat for the second time.
He was in the race in 2013 but lost to the outgoing governor Jackson Mandago during the then United Republican Party (URP) nominations.
In the 2017 poll, Prof Bitok opted not to vie.
He will be battling for the UDA ticket alongside among others Jonathan Bii, Soy MP Caleb Kositany, and former envoy Sarah Serem.
UDA has already announced it will hold party primaries across all counties in mid-April.

The winner of the UDA nomination in the Uasin Gishu gubernatorial contest will face billionaire businessman Bundotich Zedekiah Kiprop – Buzeki, who has said he will be presenting his candidature on the independent ticket.
