There was dance and celebrations in the streets of Kitale town’s Central Business District Wednesday evening following the just released Infotrak results that ranked Trans Nzoia County Governor George Natembeya a top performer.
Natembeya was ranked top, alongside his Homa Bay counterpart Gladys Wanga with a 70 per cent score in terms of performance.
Addressing hundreds of County government workers, traders and residents at his town hall offices, the governor said the performance is attributed to the commitment of his staff.
“This win is not mine alone but ours collectively and it is just but the beginning of a long journey of liberating our people from poverty,” Natembeya said.
In addition, the county boss said being ranked number one will encourage investors to consider pumping their resources into the agriculturally rich county.
Attract more investors
“When we took over power, we promised the people of Trans Nzoia shall no longer be ashamed because of the history of being ranked last. We are urging investors to consider Trans Nzoia as their investment hub,” he appealed.
He also took issues with some leaders who are opposed to his liberation agenda and urged them to watch the space.
“Currently, we are invited to the table of sharing national cake but very soon, we shall be inviting others. However, while we try to look for goodies for our people, some people are pulling us back but we shall not be detracted,” he added.
On his part, the Political affairs advisor in the office of Governor Natembeya Joshua Werunga urged the governor not to be detracted by his critics and focus on delivering his campaign manifesto.
This was echoed by Truphosa Amere, the County Secretary who urged Trans Nzoia County employees to discharge their mandate as required.
Natembeya and Wanga emerged as the best in a list of top 25 Governors.
West Pokot Governor Simon Kachapin came in third with 67%. Simba Arati (Kisii) Irungu Kang’ata (Murang’a), Jeremiah Lomurkai (Turkana) and Mutula Kilonzo (Makueni) tied at position four with 64%.
