Plant For Bottled Water To Be Set up in Kitale

The County Government of Trans Nzoia is in the process of establishing a water bottling plant to support in own revenue generation as well as create employment opportunities for the job seekers.

County Secretary Truphosa Amere who launched the drilling exercise at the Water Offices on the outskirts of Kitale town on Tuesday said the project will take approximately three weeks to completion.

She pointed out that the solar-powered water project will create opportunities for enterprise, help reduce waterborne diseases and provide communities with the precious commodity at an affordable rate.

The County Government is hence poised to save on the costs it has been incurring in buying water for its functions with the plant expected to pump at least 3 cubic meters per hour.

The first phase which entails drilling and equipping is set to cost approximately Khs4 million with the actual test pumping and quality testing due to be done by Water Resource Authority and subsequently Kenya Bureau of Standards (KeBS).

Water County Executive Committee Member Patrick Gacheru, Chief Officer Dorothy Nyukuri, Water Director Mudachi and his Environment counterpart Godfrey Wekesa are among those who witnessed the launch.

Speaking at the event, Nyukuri also hinted that the product brand would be Kitale Springs Mineral Water.
