Businessman Samson Kimani Mugo alias Samkiz has officially joined the race to be the next Turbo Member of Parliament.
Samkiz will be vying for the seat on Azimio la Umoja – a political vehicle headed by ODM leader Raila Odinga.
The businessman was unveiled as the Azimio la Umoja candidate during a political rally held at Huruma Grounds on Saturday, January 22, 2022.
His candidature was endorsed by a number of politicians in the Constituency led by Kiplombe Member of County Assembly Ramadan Ali Werambo, and Langas MCA Francis Muya.

Werambo is considered among the influential politicians amongst the Luhya community living in Uasin Gishu.
He has in the last two elections won an MCA seat as an ODM candidate and is seeking a third term in 2022.

His endorsement is a boost to Samkiz’s bid.
During the 2017 general election, Samkiz sought the Jubilee party ticket for the Huruma MCA seat but lost the party primaries to the late Peter Kiiru Chomba.

He, however, did not vie for the MCA seat during the by-election, and instead opted to support the youthful lawyer Kimani Wanjohi.
Widow to the late Chomba won the MCA seat.
His entry to the Turbo MP seat race is likely to complicate the political matrics in the highly cosmopolitan constituency.
With the Azimio la Umoja ticket, Samkiz s hoping to get the support of the non-Kalenjin votes in the constituency.

He will, however, have to face off with a UDA candidate.
Over 10 candidates have expressed interest in vying for the seat on a UDA ticket. They include the current MP Janet Siteienei who won in 2017 as an independent candidate and former MP Elisha Busienei.
Others are gospel singer Moses Sirgoi, the current Eldoret Municipal Board chairman Julius Kitur, and David Songok who recently joined UDA from ODM where he was the Uasin Gishu chairman.
