The County Government of Uasin Gishu has enhanced efforts to upgrade all its sub-county hospitals
Roads, Transport and Infrastructure County Executive Committee Member (CECM) Eng. Joseph Lagat says the upgrade is now at different stages.
In an interview with Uasin Gishu News, Eng. Lagat says the county is working on ensuring each of the six Sub County Hospitals has a theatre.
Uasin Gishu has six sub-counties – Ainabkoi, Kesses, Kapseret, Turbo, Moiben and Soy – each of which will have a Sub County Hospital.
Ainabkoi already has a fully-fledged Burnt Forest Sub County Hospital while Kapteldon serves locals within Kapseret Sub County.

According to the CECM, there are ongoing construction works for a sub-county hospital in Ziwa, Soy Sub County as well as Kesses, in Kesses Sub County.
Works on the two projects are at 70 per cent complete.
Oxygen cylinders
“In Turbo, we are almost starting construction and we’re in the process of identifying a contractor,” said the County Executive.
The county in 2021 secured land that will be used in the construction of the Turbo Sub County Hospital.
Works are also expected to start for the Moiben Sub County Hospital.
Early this week, Uasin Gishu County received 490 Oxygen Cylinders, supplies that the CECM notes will play a key role in their bid to equip every sub-county hospital with a theatre.
“Oxygen is a key component of a theatre and the cylinders we have received will come as a major boost for our efforts to upgrade the facilities,” noted Eng. Lagat.

“We want our hospitals to have theatres so that patients can get the services closer to them,” he added.
With a lack of well-equipped county facilities, patients have been flooding the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) in Eldoret town – a scenario the county seeks to address with plans to ensure every sub-county has a fully functional Sub County Hospital.
